The brain is like any other part of your body, it needs to be exercised to be, and stay, in shape. Like with the rest of your body, the more you exercise your brain, the better and quicker it works – inclusive late in life.

Challenging your mental capacity every day has proven beneficial, and the earlier in life you start integrating “neurobics” into your daily routine, the better. Brain exercise does not only keep you alert, but it also improves your memory.

Mental workout has the same purpose as physical activity; to use the specific body-part and thus make it stronger and healthier. It also follows the same principle as corporal exercise in the way that a carefully laid plan with a specific aim is much more constructive than randomly picked activities.

To assist you in putting together an optimal program for your particular needs, you should have the following in mind. The brain learns via association; variety furthers brain activity – routine lulls it in to inactivity, while new routines stimulate and strengthen both memory and the ability to understand new ideas.

If you remember this, it is easier to put together a mental workout routine that suits you. Try out these exercises:

  • Speed training. This is the easiest and most constructive drill to do. Speed training helps create photographic memory and quick perception as it creates neural networks in the brain.
  • Colour memory and image visualization. This is one of the most effective mental gymnastics in your training program. It will help improving memory and there are many different exercises from which you can chose.
  • Reading. When you want to increase your memory-capacity, reading is exceptionally useful
  • Physical exercises. There are several methods of brain training and physical exercises are one of them. Try this: look out in space, empty your mind for any thoughts and slowly roll your eyes 360º.
