10 reasons why physical fitness is important:

  1. Longer, more healthy life.
    Participating in regular exercise will decrease your risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, and many forms of cancer. It also decreases your chance of having a stroke. An eight year study of over 20,000 men showed those that were lean and unfit had two times the risk of dying than those who were fit and lean.
  2. Increased Energy and Stamina
    When you exercise, you have more energy. A study of middle-aged women who did weight training for one year were 27% more active in their daily activities than before they started lifting weights. When you follow a regular exercise regime, you have increased stamina and strength and are able to perform normal activities such as climbing a flight of stairs or carrying bags of groceries.
  3. Maintain body weight
    If you diet without exercise, the weight you lose will mainly be water and lean muscle mass. When exercise as part of your weight loss program, you will be able to lose body fat and maintain or gain lean muscle mass.
  4. Strong Bones
    At about age 35, both men and women being to lose bone mass. Weight lifting can prevent the loss of bone mass and may even reverse it in some cases. Maintaining bone mass decreases the chance of osteoporosis. Doing weight bearing exercises also helps maintain bone strength.\

A study of people who had been recommended for back surgery had 35 of 38 people being able to avoid surgery by strengthening the abdominal and lower back muscles through exercise.

    Exercising regularly will strengthen the immune system and make you less susceptible to illness.

    People who exercise on a regular basis fall asleep more quickly, stay asleep, and sleep longer than those who do not exercise.
  8. Mental Sharpness
    Exercising regularly has been proven to improve brain function. This aids in preventing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. This has been proven by numerous scientific studies.
  9. Improved Mood
    Several studies indicate you feel better after exercising. This is due to chemicals that are released in the brain during your workout. These chemicals will decrease anxiety, anger, depression, and stress.
  10. Better Quality of Life
    When you are physically fit, you will enjoy life more than if you were not fit. When you look good, you feel good and are more productive.

Physical fitness is important because so many difficulties attributed to aging are due to a sedentary lifestyle. These problems can be prevented when you improve your physical fitness.
