Crazy Facts About Human Body

The functions of the human body can sometimes appear magical. Some of them are still a mystery to us, like what goes on in the brain. However, there are some crazy things about the human body that scientists have discovered. Here are nine of them.

1. Ultraviolet Light
You always thought that it was impossible, but guess what? It’s not. You actually can see ultraviolet light, but the ability to do so is just filtered out by our eyes’ lenses. Therefore, some people have undergone surgery to remove the lens and, then can detect ultraviolet light. Also, most babies are surprisingly born with blue eyes. The exposure to ultraviolet light and melanin are what eventually bring out their true color.

2. Our DNA
Every human being shares 99% of their DNA with every other human. A parent and child share 99.5% of the same DNA and we even have 98% of your DNA in common with a chimpanzee. Want to know something surprising? Humans share 50% of their DNA with bananas.

3. Your Mouth
The average person produces enough saliva in their lifetime to fill up two swimming pools. There are about 40,000 bacteria in the human mouth and each of us has around 2,000 taste buds. Are you right-handed? Well if you are, you probably chew most of your food on the right side of your mouth, while left-handed people do so on the left.

4. The Human Eye
The human eye is one of our most sensitive organs. If the Earth were flat, you could spot a candle flickering at night from up to 30 miles away. Almost 90% of the information we receive about our environment comes from our eyes. People with blue eyes are more sensitive to pain than others. The human eye can distinguish up to 10 million different colors during a lifetime.

5. Your Skin
Your skin is the largest organ in your body and in a male adult, would cover 20 square ft. if stretched out. Over the course of your lifetime, you will shed about 18kg of skin.

6. Your Lips
Human lips are hundreds of times more sensitive than a person’s fingertips. One kiss increases a person’s pulse to 100 beats per minute or more. A passionate kiss can even cause the same chemical reactions in the brain that skydiving and firing a gun do.

7. Breathing
An adult person performs around 23,000 inhalations and exhalations a day. Have a cough? It amounts to an explosive charge of air which moves at speeds up to 60 miles per hour.

8. Heart
The human heart pumps blood at such a high pressure that it would have the potential to raise blood up to the fourth floor of a building. The human heart pumps 182 million liters of blood during the average lifetime. Always stressed on Monday because it’s the first day of the week? According to German researchers, the risk of having heart attack is higher on Monday than on any other day of the week.

9. Your Brain
A single human brain generates more electrical impulses in a day than all the telephones of the world combined. Nerve impulses sent from the brain move at a speed of 274 km/h and its memory capacity is equivalent to more than four terabytes on a hard drive. People with a higher IQ have more dreams, but ninety percent of people in general forget the dreams that they had the night before.
