In line with the upcoming World Health Day on April 7, 2017, each individual can contribute to WHO’s mission to raise global awareness on different health issues. It has become WHO’s way to capture the attention of everyone to be more aware of their health. After all, our health is something that we should never compromised or taken for granted.

Here are 5 Must Do Lifestyle Change that You Can do this World Health Day:

  1. Make it a habit to walk – Have you been sitting in front of your computer for almost 8 hours a day? Now is the perfect time to develop this habit. Take a walk when going to work, or if you go there by bus, drop-off 1 block away from your office and walk. Not only does it benefits your heart and cholesterol level but it will also keep you energized and sets you in a positive mood to start your day.
  2. Eat Green – Indeed, fries, Chips, Sodas, and Burgers are foods that are really hard to resist. But have you checked the content of each food? Almost all of them are made of preservatives, food colorings and flavors that are proven to be unsafe to your bodies. So instead of grabbing a bag of chips for your midnight snack, why not substitute it with a healthy salad or your favorite fruits? If you feel like grabbing a cold drink, try making your own fruit shake which tastes even better than your sodas.
  3. Quit Smoking – There’s a reason why a lot of health practitioners tells you that smoking shortens the life span of a person. Just try to google the effects of smoking and simply look at the pictures; if those pictures do not convince you that indeed smoking will destroy you, then you should probably think again and imagine yourself years from now if you continue smoking. It will be difficult at first but with motivation, you will eventually get rid of this habit.
  4. Join Groups that Encourages Physical Activities – From a simple yoga or Zumba session every morning to extraneous activities such as hiking, biking or water sports, you can join groups that you share the same interests with so it would not be hard to allot time for these activities. The important thing here is you sweat while having fun.
  5. Talk to Your Friends and Family – This coming World Health Day, WHO focuses on issues regarding Depression. A lot of cases wherein the health of an individual is compromised are due to stress and depression. Mental health is a very important factor to consider before saying that an individual is healthy. Being in a depressed state will affect individual’s physical activities, relationship to other people and lifestyle. Surrounding yourself with the people who care for you most and being open to them about what bothers you will surely be of great help.

There are still a lot of lifestyle changes that you can do to stay fit and healthy but the most important thing is to keep motivated and determined in reaching this goal. And of course, do these not only during World Health Day but try to practice making it a habit. In the long run, you will surely benefit from these activities.
